Victims & People Impacted

TutsisThe Tutsi people in Rwanda were the most affected by the genocide. Back in 1985, a group called the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) was formed to remove social discrimination against the Tutsis. In 1990, the RPF invaded Rwanda from Uganda, creating hatred among the people in Rwanda. Fear for loss of power, previous hatred, and anger from the invasion increased the likeliness for the genocide to happen (Rwandan, 2014).
Native HutusEven Hutus were affected by the genocide. Native Hutus who sympathized with their Tutsi neighbors would try and hide them from the "Hutu Power" in order to keep them safe. Although, while trying to keep them safe, many of the Hutu protectors would end up dying. Also, moderate Hutus who refused to take action against Tutsi neighbors would die (Rwandan, 2014).
