Methods Used
Dehumanization - Propaganda stripped the average man of most of his rights as a human being. The propaganda made the Tutsis seem like pests or animals. At one point they used the word "cockroach" as referring to the Tutsi being a contamination. At another, they even called the people that crowded around a mosque "pigs in a slaughterhouse" (Analysis, 2014). Some of the people who assisted in the "Hutu Power" movement would tie tutsis up and brutally murder or rape their families in front of them. They first were using guns or grenades, then went to machetes.
Accusation - Hutu forces convinced themselves that the Tutsi were setting the standard for violence and cruelty. (Analysis, 2014)
Demonization - The RPF would convince the Hutu people that the Tutsi civilians were some sort of demonic or supernatural creatures (Analysis, 2014).
